Berhampur: The city police has slapped two more cases on former Sanakhemundi legislator Ramesh Jena.

In the first case registered against Jena in Patpur police station of Ganjam district, Jena has been accused of extorting money from a chicken farm house owner in Padmapur village. It was alleged that Jena was taking extortion money on a monthly basis.

Similarly in the second case, the former lawmaker has been accused of grabbing more than two acres of land in Nimakhandi area of Berhampur. Jena’s father Arakshit, BMC corporator Murli Mohan and Buna Sahu are co-accused in the case, police said.

Meanwhile Berhampur police has applied before the SDJM court a remand extension of Santosh Behera, whose five-day remand ended today. Behera, a close aide of Jena was arrested on March 14 by a team of Mancheswar police from near the banks of Kuakhai river in Bhubaneswar where he along with four of his associates had assembled to plot a crime in the capital city.

A loaded mauser with five rounds of ammunition, a sharp weapon and a Pulsar motorcycle were seized from his possession.
