Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has decided to hold the State-level Independence Day parade, this year, at the Exhibition Ground in the Smart City. Mahatma Gandhi Marg had been so far the traditional venue for the parade.

Informing about the development, Twin City Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty said, "Extensive arrangements have been put in place at the Exhibition Ground for the smooth conduct of celebrations so that at least 12,000 spectators can watch the event at the ground amid tight security."

Contingents of Indian Army, Telangana Police, Central Armed Police Force and Odisha Police will give salutations during the state-level parade," informed Mohanty.

Even though the police are yet to clearly specify about the details of security and other arrangements on the ground, the Commisisoner said that around 15 to 20 platoons of police forces are likely to be deployed during the event.

"Since other crucial events like oath taking ceremony of the present government was also organised at the same venue recently, we believe that 15 to 20 platoons will be sufficient. If necessary, we will increase the police cover," said Mohanty.

"For parking, the road in front of the exhibition ground will be used and a part of the ground will also be used for the parking of service vehicles if necessary," said the Commissioner adding that in case the venue is unable to provide space for vehicles, the administration will make arrangements for parking of vehicles at Unit III Capital High School.

Notably, on Saturday, a team of police officials comprising DGP RP Sharma, Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty and DCP Anup Sahu had inspected the Exhibition Ground.
