Execute MCI rules in medical PG entrance exams

Allowing prayers of the servicing doctor petitioners, the single judge bench of Justice M M Das yesterday directed the state to ensure that the MCI guidelines were followed in letter and spirit from next year as the examination process for current year was already over.

The few in-service doctors had earlier petitioned the high court seeking a direction for the government to implement the MCI guideline, 2009, which made it mandatory that all the MBBS doctors working under state-run hospitals in rural and peripheral areas shall get 10 per cent incentive marks in PG entrance examinations for each year of service in government hospitals.

This incentive mark, however, shall not exceed 30 per cent, the MCI contended.

But ignoring the MCI guidelines, Orissa government had continued the PG entrance examinations for 2010 and 2011 without giving any incentive marks to those doctors who are working in government hospitals located at far-flung areas.
