Excise department seizes large quantities of illegal liquor during major raid in Balasore

A major crackdown on illegal liquor operations was carried out by the Excise Department in Balasore on Wednesday, resulting in the seizure and destruction of substantial quantities of illegally prepared liquor and other raw materials.

The operation, conducted in the Old Balasore area by an independent team of the Excise department in collaboration with local police, was initiated following complaints about ongoing illegal country liquor production and trade. The combined team seized large amounts of illicitly brewed liquor along with raw materials used in its preparation. Officials destroyed the confiscated stock on the spot.

Multiple Detentions and Ongoing Investigation

So far, 15–20 people have been detained in connection with the case, and further arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation continues. The Excise Department is interrogating the detained individuals to trace the network behind the illegal trade.

Authorities noted that similar incidents have occurred in the region previously, yet the illegal liquor operations continued. The current raid is part of a broader effort to curb the illicit production and distribution of alcohol in Balasore, protecting public health and enforcing the law.

The Excise Department has assured that stricter monitoring will continue and urged residents to report any suspicious activities related to illegal liquor brewing in their localities.
