Bhubaneswar: Five former women corporators of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had to face embarassment after they were unable to provide any data in connection with the allegations they brought against BJP candidate from Bhubaneswar parliamentary constituency and former IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi.

The former corporators of the ruling BJD, in a presser on Sunday had alleged that Sarangi during her tenure as BMC Commissioner was involved in multiple irregularities. However, the corporators were not able to provide any proof sought by the mediapersons at the press conference regarding their allegations against Sarangi.

“We will definitely present the facts regarding the allegations. The aim of today’s press conference was only to inform about the irregularities and such a corrupt person should not be allowed to contest elections from Bhubaneswar. Her candidature should be rejected,” said former corporator, Mahamaya Swain.

Though Sarangi could not be reached for comments, BJP termed the allegation as baseless. Taking a jibe at the BJD, the saffron party’s Odisha unit Vice- President, Samir Mohanty said, “They are in power, so they can take any action they want. They are clear that Aparajita Sarangi is definitely going to win the elections, so they have become terrified. Bringing such baseless allegations will only make people laugh.”
