Locals allege that the chairman Samant has encroached upon a public road and even constructed an illegal structure over it.

Residents of Amalapada point out that the concrete road connecting Lane 6 to Lane 7 has been completely blocked. A tin shed and an extended structure have reportedly been built right over the government road, obstructing public movement.

Are Rules Not Same For All? Ask Locals

This comes at a time when the municipality is evicting roadside vendors, clearing markets, and removing hutments across various parts of the town in the name of traffic management and city beautification. While ordinary encroaches face strict action, locals question why the administration is silent when allegations involve the chairman.

“People are alleging that the official has encroached upon government land. Action should be taken impartially against all encroaches, but that is not happening. The law should be the same for common people as well as those holding government positions or public office. We demand action against him (the Chairman),” said Parsuram Das, a local resident.

When contacted, the Executive Officer of Angul Municipality claimed he was unaware of the encroachment. The local MLA also avoided commenting, and the chairperson offered vague explanations when confronted with the issue.
