Puri: The eviction drive, launched by Puri district administration as part of ongoing measures for overall development near Srimandir, resumed after a brief gap on Sunday.

As per reports, nearly 167 shops inside century-old Mochi Sahi Mahodadhi market complex will be demolished. Earlier, the administration on September 24 had served notices to nearly 230 shopkeepers to vacate the market complex by October 14.

Prabhat Panigrahi, Senior Manager of Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation Limited said, “Under the concept plan, a mega market complex with 475 shops and adequate parking facility for 100 four wheelers will be constructed. Already tenders worth 36.33 Crore has been processed and we will hand over the shops to the beneficiaries within two years.”

Debabrata Sarangi, Engineer with Puri Municipality said, “We have deployed four JCBs in the demolition process which will be completed today and the debris will be removed in next couple of days."
Two platoons of police force has been deployed to maintain law and order during the eviction.
