Bhubaneswar: An eviction drive was carried out by the Enforcement officials of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) at Jagannath slum in Jaydev Vihar area of the city today.

As per reports, the road connecting Kalinga stadium to Jaydev Vihar was blocked to undertake the anti-encroachment drive.

Ten platoons of police force were deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward incident.

In view of the Hockey World Cup 2018, the administration has already decided to remove illegal encroachments and slums that have come up in and around the Kalinga Stadium, in a phased manner.

Earlier, the city administration had carried out eviction drive alongside Gate no-9 of the stadium. The Jagannath temple situated near Jagannath slum was demolished in presence of police, BMC and BDA authorities. Similar eviction drive was also taken up at Gauda Sahi slum in the Nayapalli area of the city yesterday.

Sources said the affected families were given temporary accommodation and monetary benefit. Besides, they were assured to get house by the State government. However, the dwellers expressed their anguish for not being intimated prior to the eviction.
