EOW takes ‘conman’ Golden Baba on remand

Bhubaneswar: Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Crime Branch today took ‘conman’ Jyoti Ranjan Beura alias Golden Baba on a one-day remand and began interrogation in connection with several cases.

Earlier in the day, the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court granted permission to EOW to take the accused on remand, following which a special team of EOW reached Jharpada Jail.

After taking him into custody, the wing has started interrogation of the accused in connection with two cases filed in Laxmisagar and Chandrasekharpur police stations, informed sources.

The accused will be questioned about the sources of his massive wealth and involvement of other persons in the alleged financial frauds. The EOW will also investigate into allegations of Golden Baba enjoying political patronage, sources added.

Earlier, the Commissionerate Police had frozen his bank locker reportedly containing 1.5 kilograms of gold worth around Rs 40 lakh.
“We will be preparing an analysis of the actions taken and pending in the cases. We have also taken steps to ensure smooth and accurate investigation in accordance with the formal ‘plan of action’ prepared by us in advance,” said Crime Branch ADG, Santosh Upadhyay.
