Rourkela: An engineering student of NIT, Rourkela, was feared drowned in the river Brahmani near Birtola ghat, about 55 km from here on Sunday, police said.
Kumar Gourav (22)and 15 other students went to the area for picnic. When Gourav`s spectacles fell on the river, he tried to recover it and suddenly slipped into the deep water ths morning.
The second year B.Tech (Mechanical) student from Darbhanga in Bihar did not know swimming and was suspected to have been swept away under the whirling current and hit boulders inside.
Search operation by divers, fire brigade personnel and local youths was still on. Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force team is also likely be pressed into service, police said.
