Bhubaneswar: They came, they performed and they conquered. Eminent Odia singers, who have enthralled listeners for many years with their popular songs, again belted away their chart-busting numbers at the Odisha Music Concert organized by Tarang Music channel at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack on Saturday evening. Music lovers especially from the twin cities savoured the occasion as Pranab Pattnaik, Trupti Das, Geeta Patnaik, Subhas Das, Amarendra Mohanty, Tapu Mishra and a bevy of other popular artistes left their indelible imprint on the audience. Their enchanting performance,as expected, left the magical spell on the audience at the indoor stadium. The show was coordinated by Music Director Omprakash Mohanty and Arranger Nityashri Ranjan.

Apart from the scintillating performances by the singers, the Odisha Music Concert also felicitated some leading lights from the world of music with 'Sangeet Samman" who have brought glory to the state over the years. Flute maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and veteran Music Director Prafulla Kar were honoured by co-founder and Director, Odisha Television Jagi Mangat Panda for their immense contribution to music.

 
Chaurasia, who has been awarded the Padma Vibhushan, while accepting the hounour of Tarang Music channel said, "Everybody should feel and understand the value of music. Music is such a subject which should be practised in each and every household."
 
"Children should also learn music. If they don't have time to do so, they should at least listen to it and, their mind and soul will get purified. There will be no need of medicine," added he.

Similarly, Nizam was honoured by IGP Debasish Panigrahi and Ortel CEO Bibhu Prasad Rath.


Spelling out the objectives of the annual musical evening, Mrs Panda said, “Through the Odisha Music Concert, Tarang Music channel wants to give a platform to past and present singers to come together and celebrate the spectacular musical journey of Odisha. It’s an occasion to recall the past and celebrate the present”.
