Rayagada: The locals of Kereda panchayat in the district are living in constant fear after a herd of wild elephants from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh strayed into the region a couple of days ago and destroyed paddy fields.

As per reports, the jumbos wrecked havoc in several villages of the panchayat by destroying paddy in several hectares of land. The forest officials are reportedly trying hard to ward off the elephants but they have not yet succeeded.

Meanwhile, the villagers are having sleepless nights due to the unwanted disaster they have met with.

"We received information that a herd of seven elephants have strayed into the villages. With the help of villagers, we are trying our best to ward off the elephants," said forest guard, Murlidhar Rout.
