Dhenkanal: A wild elephant allegedly trampled an elderly man to death at Godarbili village in Kamakhyanagar of Dhenkanal district today.

As per reports, Hrudananda Mallick had gone to attend nature’s call early in the morning today near Sogar Shalua square when the jumbo trampled him to death.

The incident led to resentment among the locals who resorted to road blockade demanding compensation for the family of the deceased.

Later, they withdrew the agitation after the forest department officials and In-charge of Pandua police out post pacified them and handed over a cheque of Rs 40,000 to the family assuring them of providing the balance amount of compensation after verification of all the required documents.

As per the forest department officials, the jumbo is still at large in the nearby area and they are trying to ward it off into the deep forest.
