Elephant dies after eating bomb: Odisha forest dept swings into action, seizes explosives Photograph: (OTV)
The Forest Department on Saturday swung into action and launched an investigation after an elephant reportedly died after consuming a bomb. Following the raid, Dillip Nayak, the accused storing the explosives and weapons was arrested, police said.
A thorough inspection by the forest department has led to the seizure of a large quantity of hunting equipments from Durgapur village under the Angul Forest Division, Jharpada Range.
Explosives and Weapons Recovered
A special team of the Forest Department conducted the raid in the village, recovering eight handmade bombs, two country-made guns, 62 rounds of ammunition, and two slingshots measuring 7 inches and 4 inches. In addition, the raid team also seized three small nets, 50 grams of potash, one pouch, two twelve-barrel traps, 100 grams of gunpowder, and several other items reportedly used for hunting.

Arrest and Previous Admission
Sources confirmed that Dillip had previously admitted to hunting on one occasion. The Forest Department emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken based on the findings.
The seizure highlights the continuing efforts of the Forest Department to curb illegal hunting and prevent further harm to wildlife in Odisha, particularly after the tragic death of the elephant.
