In a significant development, Subarnapur village under Jhadabandha Panchayat in Dharakote block of Ganjam district is set to receive electricity after 28 years. The action was initiated within 24 hours of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi directing officials to ensure immediate electrification, following an OTV report that highlighted the plight of villagers over decades.
Swift Action After Chief Minister’s Orders
Acting promptly on the Chief Minister’s instructions issued during the District Collector’s conference on November 18, the Dharakote BDO, Zilla Parishad Member, local Sarpanch, and nodal officer from the electricity department rushed to the village to assess the ground situation.
Officials conducted a field inspection and immediately began the work of installing electricity poles. The long-awaited move has revived hope among residents who have lived without a basic power supply for nearly three decades.
"Firstly, the Chief Minister saw our problems, and then he told the officials and the collector to provide electricity to this village in Subarnapur. We were very happy after hearing this. I express my gratitude to OTV and the chief minister," said Arpa Gamang, a college student.

Villagers Express Joy and Gratitude
Subarnapur, a tribal-dominated village, is home to over 150 residents from more than 30 families. For years, the community depended on lanterns and candles, especially children who struggled to study in the absence of electricity.
Villagers expressed immense relief, stating that OTV’s coverage brought their issue to the attention of the state administration. Many thanked the media for amplifying their voices and helping bring light to their homes, literally and symbolically.
"Based on the directions of the collector, all the higher officials of TPSODL, myself, assistant engineer, junior engineer and clerk of the RH section went there, and the work has been started from yesterday. They have given a target to complete this work in 10 days time," said Sangram Keshari Jena, BDO, Dharakote.
A Long-Awaited Transformation Begins
As electrification work begins, Subarnapur is set to experience a dramatic improvement in daily life access to lighting, safer evenings, and better opportunities for children.
The swift response from the administration marks a turning point for this village. What remained a decades-long dream is now becoming reality, proving that timely intervention and accountable governance can truly illuminate the lives of the most overlooked communities.
