The prices of edible oil have witnessed a fresh hike, increasing by around Rs 10 per litre, causing concern among consumers in Odisha
The sudden rise in cooking oil prices has put additional pressure on household budgets and sparked anxiety among homemakers. Following the price hike, the impact is clearly being felt in kitchens, where cooking oil is an essential daily commodity. Many families are now worried about managing their monthly expenses as the cost of essential food items continues to rise.
Homemakers, who manage household spending, say the increase in edible oil prices has made it more difficult to balance their budgets. Several women expressed concern that frequent hikes in the prices of essential commodities are affecting their daily lives and forcing them to rethink their cooking and purchasing habits.
With edible oil being a key ingredient in most dishes, the latest price rise has created unease among consumers, particularly among homemakers who bear the responsibility of running their households efficiently.

"Edible oil is an essential ingredient in everyday cooking, and the recent price hike has placed a significant burden on middle-class families. With the cost of oil increasing, many households are now forced to adjust their cooking habits and manage their expenses more carefully. The rising prices have made it difficult for the middle class to maintain their usual consumption, leaving them to bear the brunt of the fresh hike," said Sabita Chhatoi, a homemaker.
"I came to know about the price hike of edible oil after visiting the market yesterday. The prices of almost all essential cooking commodities have increased so much that it is becoming very difficult to manage the family budget. Edible oil and cooking gas are basic necessities for daily cooking in every household. If the prices of these essential commodities continue to rise, it will become extremely difficult for middle-class families to manage cooking and household expenses at home," said MInati Sethi, another homemaker.
