E-Challan Error: Car Parked In Cuttack, Fined In Bhubaneswar!

Cuttack: While hefty fines are being collected for violating traffic rules under the new Motor Vehicles Act, a car owner in Cuttack was allegedly issued a ‘wrong challan’ without violating any traffic rules and having all valid documents.

The complainant, Sushant Mohanty of Ganga Mandir area in Cuttack, said that he recently learnt from VAHAN website that he has been issued a challan of Rs 3,500 for violating multiple traffic rules at Vani Vihar Square in Bhubaneswar in the month of August. However, Mohanty alleged that he had not driven his car to Bhubaneswar on that particular day.

According to VAHAN website, Mohanty has been issued the challan for not having valid pollution under control certificate (PUC), driving licence, overspeed and not stopping his car despite instructions from the traffic police.

Refuting the charges, Mohanty said, “I have a valid driving licence and pollution certificate. If I had not stopped my car (as mentioned in the VAHAN website’s challan), how did the traffic cops knew that I did not had a driving licence or PUC certificate.”

Mohanty alleged that though the challan was generated against him three months back, he has not received any challan so far. “I was issued the challan on August 28 as per the VAHAN website. However, I was unaware of it as I have not received any official communication like e-mail, SMS or any postal letter in this regard so far,” Mohanty added.

Meanwhile, the officials of Regional Transport Office (RTO) could not be contacted over such allegations.
