Bhubaneswar: After the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) drew flak from the Opposition for allegedly thwarting the e-auction process for liquor shop licenses two days back, the state Cabinet on Wednesday decided to introduce the system from the current year.

It was also decided in the meeting chaired by the Chief Minister that the winning bid will be valid for next three years.

According to officials, the last auctioning of county and foreign liquor shop licenses had taken place in 2005 and every year these were getting renewed.

Last month Chief Secretary BK Patnaik during a meeting to formulate modalities of excise shop licences had emphasized that e-auction will bring in transparency in the system and more revenue as well for the state.

According to officials, during 2011-12 the state government had collected Rs 1,380 crore revenue from the excise sector and aims to take it up to Rs 1700 crore during the current fiscal.
