The Commissionerate Police announced an elaborate traffic and security plan for October 3 for the Bisarjana or Durga Puja idol immersion ceremony in Bhubaneswar.
As per the official notification, vehicular restrictions will be enforced across several major routes in the state capital from 2 pm until 1 am on that day to facilitate the smooth passage of processions and to ensure public safety.
Four major immersion Committees, Saheed Nagar Bhasani Samiti, Nayapalli Bhasani Committee, Chandrashekharpur Bhasani Committee and the Old Town Bhasani Committee, will lead the processions on designated routes before idols are immersed at selected water bodies, stated the Commissionerate Police.
Routes For Major Processions In Bhubaneswar
The Saheed Nagar Bhasani Samiti will assemble at Saheed Nagar and proceed through Ram Mandir Square and Master Canteen Square towards Rajmahal Square. During the procession, Janpath Road will remain closed to vehicles, with diversions via Sachivalaya Marg and adjoining lanes.
The Nayapalli committee’s procession will move along Nayapalli underpass, CRP Square, DAV Square, Gopabandhu Square and Siripur Square. Vehicles bound for Jayadev Vihar from CRP Square will instead be routed via Ekamra Park Road.
From Chandrashekharpur, the idols will begin at Club Town Apartment field and head to Nalco Square via Damana Square. Traffic between Nandankanan and Jayadev Vihar will be diverted through KIIT Square and Kalarahanga Square.
Police added that the Old Town procession will follow pre-notified local routes, with restrictions applied under the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003.

Diversions For Heavy Vehicles
Heavy vehicles and buses entering Bhubaneswar from Khordha will not be allowed to use service roads during the immersion.
Instead, they must remain on the NH-16 to avoid congestion in the city. Additional restrictions will be imposed dynamically along minor routes where smaller puja committees hold their own immersions.
The Commissionerate Police also added that emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire tenders, police, and excise vehicles, will be exempt from the restrictions.
