With Dashami rituals now complete, the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar twin cities are gearing up for a grand Durga idol immersion (Bhasani) ceremony, scheduled to begin tomorrow morning.

In Cuttack, idols from various Durga Puja committees will proceed to Debigada ghat after completing traditional Sahi Parikrama. Major routes for the immersion processions include College Chhak, Ranihat, Mangalabag, Buxi Bazaar, Dargha Bazaar, and Choudhury Bazaar.
Traffic movement on these routes will be completely restricted during the immersion hours to ensure smooth conduct of the festivities.
To maintain law and order, the Twin City Commissionerate Police has made elaborate security measures, including the deployment of around 122 platoons of police force, alongside central paramilitary personnel. Additionally, drone cameras will be used to monitor crowd movements.
Meanwhile, an artificial pond has been set up at Debigada ghat in Cuttack for eco-friendly idol immersion. Similarly, in Bhubaneswar, arrangements have been made at the banks of the Kuakhai and Daya rivers, with temporary ponds created for the safe and sustainable disposal of idols.
“More than 110 platoons of police force will be deployed directly in the Bhasani tomorrow. About 15 more platoons will be pressed into service at different strategic locations,” Cuttack DCP, Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, said to OTV when contacted.
“We have also issued a traffic advisory for the Bhasani route starting from OMP Chhak up to Debigada, via Howrah Motors, Buxi Bazaar and Dargha Bazaar. This route will remain closed for general movement of people,” the Cuttack DCP stated.
Worth mentioning, Odisha today joined the rest of the country in celebrating Vijayadashami, marking the triumph of good over evil. The festival, observed with devotion and grandeur across villages and cities, is highlighted by rituals at temples and puja mandaps, where Maa Durga is venerated for killing the demon king Mahishasura.
