Bhubaneswar: A leader of the State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and two-time legislator from Rairangpur Assembly constituency, Draupadi Murmu has been appointed as the new governor of Jharkhand by President Pranab Mukherjee. She will replace Dr Syed Ahmed, who has been transferred as the governor of Manipur.

Commenting on her new role, Murmu said, “It is not just a post, it is a responsibility and I will carry out with full dedication.” She also expressed gratitude and thanked the Centre for giving a chance to serve people.

Murmu became the first woman leader from the State to be appointed as governor. Meanwhile, the President filled up vacancies of governors in four northeastern states while shifting two governors.
