Berhampur: After a brief lull, the Ganjam district police, in yet another breakthrough managed to arrest dreaded criminal Manoj Swain following an encounter in Khallikote in the wee hours today.

Acting on tip-off about the presence of Manoj near Narayani Temple, a team of Khallikote Police conducted a raid at around 4AM today and arrested him after a minor exchange of fire, said sources.

While Swain has sustained grievous injury on his left leg, Khallikote IIC and four other police personnel were also injured during the encounter.

Police also seized a mauser, bike, two live bullets and a magazine from his possession.

The hardcore criminal was initially admitted to Khallikote Hospital, and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Police sources said more than 10 cases including murder and robbery are pending against Manoj at different police stations in the district.

Meanwhile, the cops have launched a search operation in the area to nab Manoj's associates who escaped from the site during the encounter.

Reportedly, the Ganjam district police has been on toes 24X7 to make the Silk City criminal-free. Till date, it has conducted as many as 60 encounters and arrested 65 law breakers, sources said.
