Odisha’s beloved playback singer Humane Sagar was fighting an invisible battle in the days before his death a battle he hid behind his music, smile, and soaring popularity.
Despite being one of the most recognisable voices of his generation, the singer’s private life was breaking apart, marked by emotional turmoil, mounting pressure, and heartbreaking confessions to those close to him.
Behind the Spotlight: A Life in Turmoil
Though adored by millions, Humane Sagar’s personal world was anything but stable. Sources close to the artiste describe him as emotionally overwhelmed, struggling silently with personal challenges he never publicly shared.
While stage shows were usually managed by his team, Sagar himself began cancelling major recording sessions, especially those requiring direct communication. This sudden behaviour sparked concern among music directors and colleagues who sensed something was deeply wrong.

The Message That No One Expected
One such incident occurred on 4th August, when Sagar abruptly cancelled a recording at senior music director Srikant Gautam’s studio. Shortly after, Gautam received a message from Humane he could hardly believe: “Sir, I don’t want to live anymore. I want to die.”
"Humane has sang few songs for me. If we add album and cinema then approx 8 to 10 songs. I once called him in the studio and asked him can you come to the studio and he told he will come to the studio, gave the dates. He missed 2 dates and he came for recording on the third date,"
On why Humane refrained himself from coming after saying yes:
“I feel the circumstances prevented him from coming, “Maybe he wasn’t well. He probably thought, “If I can’t give my best, Srikant sir will be disappointed.’” said Senior Odia Music Director Srikant Goutam.
A Voice That Fell Silent Too Soon
Humane Sagar passed away after a gruelling 72-hour battle on advanced life support at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. His sudden death has left Odisha’s music fraternity devastated.
