Nayagarh: In a purported case of medical negligence, a doctor at Daspalla Community Health Centre (CHC) in Nayagarh district cut the urethral tube of a woman while performing family planning surgery on her on Tuesday.

Though the husband of the woman, Ramachandra Barad approached Khandapada Police Station for filing an FIR against the doctor, the cops reportedly did not register his complaint. Following the incident, hundreds of locals blocked NH-57 near Khandapada Police Station Chhak disrupting traffic on Khurda-Bolangir road for hours.

As per reports, Barad’s wife was admitted to the CHC yesterday for undergoing family planning surgery. However, after the surgery, she complained of severe pain in her abdomen.

When asked, the doctor accepted to have mistakenly cut the urethral tube of the woman. Later, she was taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as her health condition deteriorated.

“She had come for sterilization surgery in the CHC. When I saw that a urine drainage bag was attached to her uterus, I rushed to the doctor and asked the reason. He accepted to have wrongly cut the urethral tube,” said Ramachandra’s relative Bibhuti Bhusan Barad.

The Obstetrics and Gynecology department doctor Naba Sahoo who performed the surgery accepted to have committed the mistake.

“The urethral tube was mistakenly cut during the surgery. Due to infection in uterus, identification was difficult. But she has been given proper treatment and her health condition is stable,” informed Sahoo.
