Dhenkanal: Normal life was affected in Odisha's Dhenkanal district on Tuesday during a bandh called against a tie-up between electricity distribution agency CESU and a Bangalore-based private company.

Shops, business establishments, banks, educational institutions and other offices remained closed in Dhenkanal, Kamakhyanagar, Bhuban and other towns of the district during the dawn-to-dusk shutdown.

Vehicular movement was also disrupted and a large number of trucks were stranded on NH 55 during the bandh called by the steering committee of the residents demanding scrapping of the pact between CESU and the private company for collection and other operations.

The shutdown was peaceful without any untoward incident in the district, Superintendent of Police Manoranjan Mohanty said.

The protesters also took out a rally here and held a public meeting where speakers said the arrangement with the private company must be scrapped forthwith as it would hamper the interests of customers.
