Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today urged Union Ministry of Agriculture to facilitate linking of all the Regulated Marketing Committees (RMCs) in Odisha to the e-National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) platform.

Stating that majority of the RMCs in Odisha have inadequate facilities, Pradhan in a letter has requested Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh to link all the 66 RMCs operating in Odisha under the supervision and control of the Odisha State Agricultural Marketing Board (OSAMB) with the e-NAM platform.

At present there are 10 RMCs operating under the OSAMB’s control in Odisha.

“About 60 to 70 percent of the population in Odisha is engaged in agriculture and due to low per capita in the sector coupled with declining farmers continue to lag behind in marketing and processing capabilities,” Pradhan said adding the initiative will go a long away in eradicating farmer’s woes and facilitating enhancement of farmers income.

This year about 200 mandis are expected to be linked to unified marketplace e-NAM as part of the Central government’s vision to double farmers’ income by 2022.
