Bargarh: With the world famous Dhanu Jatra underway, demon king Kansa is ruling the roost in Maturapuri Bargarh with overbearing autrocracy.

Accompanied by his royal courtiers, Kansa today took a trip around the Bargarh town - which will be the mythological Mathurapuri during the 11-day festival - and interrogated top administrative officials including the Bargarh Commercial Tax inspector Nirupama Sahoo and DFO Abhaya Kumar Dalai.

Based on the reports of lower revenue collection, King Kansa imposed fine on the Commercial Tax department and asked the authorities to collect the pending dues.

“King Kansa has directed me to collect the pending dues by January 31 or we will have to pay a fine of Rs 5 lakh. He is our king till the completion of Dhanu Yatra and we have to accept his directives,” said the tax inspector.

The demon king also pulled up the local DFO after interrogating him over various issues from tiger death to deforestation. Morover, Kansa penalised the officer on charges of dereliction of duties.

King Kansa has strictly asked me to probe the tiger death and allegations of tree felling and submit probe report as soon as possible, said the DFO.

During the 11-day-long Dhanu Jatra, world's largest open air theatre, demon king Kansa becomes the sole authority of the district headquarters town of Bargarh, which is transformed into Mathurapuri. Be it a leader or an administrative official, each and every other person in the town become his obedient subjects.
