Phulbani: Security arrangements have been beefed up in the entire district in the wake of Christmas celebrations. The district and the police authorities have been maintaining a strong vigil on the sensitive areas. The Director General(DG) state police Manmohan Praharaj today reviewed the security arrangements at the district headquarter. The district had witnessed communal trouble during the Christmas celebrations in 2007 and after the killing of Swami Laxamananda Saraswati in August 2008.

Meanwhile, the tribal organisation spearheading the movement demanding action against fake tribe certificate holders, the Kui Samaj, has withdrawn its four-day shutdown call and instead would observe bandh for a day on December 26. The decision was arrived at after discussions between the district administration and the Samaj office bearers. The High Court had asked the administration to resolve the dispute.

The Baliguda MLA Karendra Majhi today raised the issue in the state assembly. Majhi requested the government to take all necessary steps to maintain peace in the district during the Christmas.
