Berhampur: Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Ghumusar South Division under Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district, Bijoy Ketan Acharya was on Monday sent to judicial custody by a Special Vigilance court for amassing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 3.22 crore.

According to reports, a team of anti-graft officials of Berhampur division on Saturday conducted simultaneous raids in five places including Acharya's quarter and office at Bhanjanagar and his two triple storied building at Patia and Saheed Nagar in Bhubaneswar besides a building at Andarpur in Cuttack.

The Vigilance officials also opened his two bank lockers and found gold ornaments weighing over one kilogram apart from hard cash of Rs 16. 86 lakh.

During the search, the sleuths unearthed a total property of over Rs 6.5 crore. However, Acharya was unable to explain the source of Rs 3.22 crore following which he was arrested and later forwarded to the court on Monday.

"He could not give satisfactory answer for the source of income of around Rs 3, 22, 85, 000 because of which he was arrested and forwarded to jail," informed Vigilance SP of Berhampur, Mayadhar Swain.
