Bhubaneswar: Thousands of devotees thronged temples across the state on the holy occasion of Ram Navami on Tuesday.
 
As per Hindu almanac, the birthday- Shukla Paksha of the Navami, the ninth day of the month of Chaitra- of Lord Sri Ram, the seventh incarnation of the Dashavatara of Vishnu, is observed as Ram Navami.
 
Public gathering and Satsangs were organized in various cities and towns across the state to celebrate the birth anniversary of the legendary king of Ayodhya and Lord Ram with prayers and rituals.
 
In Bhubaneswar, Ram Navami was celebrated with full gaiety and fervour at Ram Mandir, as hundreds of devotees came to offer their prayers to Lord Ram, Lord Lakshman and Devi Sita. The idols were richly decorated with flowers.
 
The day being a holiday, thousands of devotees came to the temple throughout the day to worship the deities. Similar scenes were witnessed in other temples of Lord Sri Ram in the city and across the state as well.
 
In Bhadrak, devotees ended the Sri Ram maha yagna on the eve of the holy occasion today. The yagna that has continued for three days had begun with a pot procession on Sunday. This apart, sankirtans and religious gatherings were organized where the yagna was brought to an end here.
 
On this holy day, akhada procession was the chief attraction in Rourkela. The steel city witnessed processions of as many as nine akhada teams today.
 
In Puri’s Jagannath Temple the auspicious day was observed with great pomp and ceremony. Lord Sri Ram was adorned with flowers and worshippers offered special prayers to the lord.
 
Similar celebrations on the eve of the holy occasion were also witnessed in other places like Cuttack, Berhampur, Athagarh, Raygada, Jeypore, Sambalpur, Keonjhar and Badbil etc. across the state.
