Destitute patient found unattended on Cuttack medical premises

Cuttack: In yet another example of apathetic attitude of hospital authorities, a man from Chhattisgarh was found unattended on the SCB Medical College and Hospital premises in Cuttack.

The man, identified as Ajay Banjara, was found lying inside the hospital premises by locals. After locals brought the matter to the notice of authorities, he was admitted to the hospital.

The man was travelling from Tamil Nadu to his home state Chhattisgarh. On his way, he suffered burn injuries after which he got down from the train and went to SCB Medical for treatment.

When asked, Banjara said, “I received treatment but every time it was different. The bleeding did not stop and the flesh started to decompose. They kept saying me to do Sonography and other tests. I have no money for treatment.”

Local resident Nursinghacharana Panda said, “Nobody was taking him for treatment or attending to him. So, we, around 10-12 people helped him.”

Bhubanananda Maharana, Emergency Officer, SCB Medical, said, “Often things get out of our hands. We will try to ensure that such destitute patients get proper treatment.”
