Dense fog very likely in Odisha districts during next 2 days; IMD issues Yellow alert

IMD has issued a Yellow alert as dense fog is likely at isolated pockets in coastal and interior Odisha, including Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Kendrapara, over the next 48 hours amid dry weather and rising minimum temperatures.

With no significant synoptic system lying in the region, dense fog is very likely to occur at isolated pockets in some districts of Odisha, including Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Kendrapara, during the next two days (48 hours), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar forecasted on Sunday.

The IMD has issued Yellow alert in these districts for February 2 and 3.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD mentioned, “Dry weather has prevailed over the districts of Odisha during the last 24 hours. Minimum Temperature has observed appreciable rise by about 2-3°C at one or two places over the districts of South Coastal Odisha and no large change at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha.”

“They were appreciably above normal by about 3-4°C at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha, above normal by about 2-3°C at a few places over the districts of South Odisha, at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha, below normal by about 2°C at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha and normal at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha,” the IMD bulletin read.

“The highest Maximum (day) temperature of 31.5°C was recorded yesterday at Jharsuguda, and the lowest Minimum (night) temperature of 12.0°C was recorded at Phulbani in the plains of Odisha,” the meteorology department stated.

Warnings and forecasts in Odisha districts for the next two days:

For Sunday (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 02.02.2026)

Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.

Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur during early hours/morning hours at one or two places over the district of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khordha, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Dense fog is very likely to occur at isolated pockets in the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Khordha, Puri, Ganjam and Gajapati.

For Monday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 02.02.2026 to 0830 hrs IST of 03.02.2026)

Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.

Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur during early hours/morning hours at one or two places over the district of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack and Nayagarh.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Dense fog is very likely to occur at isolated pockets in the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur and Puri.
