The fog appeared unusually dense on the first day of the New Year, giving the impression that the year had begun under a thick white blanket. From early morning, everything remained shrouded in fog, reducing visibility to as low as 40 to 50 metres in many regions.

Cities including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri and Balasore reported similar conditions, with dense fog enveloping streets, residential areas and highways. The situation was particularly severe in coastal Odisha and parts of northern interior districts, where the impact of fog was more pronounced.

Due to the prevailing weather conditions, transportation services were affected, and motorists were advised to exercise caution while travelling. The combination of biting cold and dense fog continues to cause inconvenience, raising concerns over road safety and daily commuting across the state.
