Denied hearse vehicle, kin carry body of youth for 10 km on foot

Malkangiri: Despite tall claims of government to provide basic healthcare infrastructure in remote areas of the state, nothing seems to have changed in reality. Lest, incidents of non availability of hearse or ambulances wouldn’t have been trickling in from every part every day. Like the incident reported today where the body of a youth was carried on a makeshift bamboo stretcher by his relatives after being denied a hearse vehicle in Chitrakonda area of Malkangiri district..

As per reports, the youth, identified as Nirmala of Majhiguda village was admitted to the Chitrakonda Community Health Centre (CHC) today in a critical condition following a road mishap. However, the youth succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the CHC.

Later, the relatives of the deceased had asked the hospital authorities to provide them a hearse vehicle or an ambulance to carry the body to their native place. But the authorities allegedly denied to provide any vehicle, following which the relatives of the deceased carried the body for 10 kms from Chitrakonda CHC to Majhiguda village.

“After doctors told us to make own arrangements for taking the body back to the village, we carried it for around 10 kms,” said Gopala Majhi, brother of the deceased.
