Cuttack: Tension gripped residents of Cuttack after over 15 persons were tested positive of dengue virus from Silpi Kumbhar and Kathagada areas of the district.

While it is believed that the number of dengue cases may increase further, locals alleged that lack of sanitation drive by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has led to the outbreak of the disease.

"No one is paying visit to our area. The CMC sprayed anti-larvicide only once to control the mosquitoes," said a local.

Another local alleged that the CMC officials once visited the affected areas and asked about the names of people who were tested positive but no other measures were taken by them.

Responding to the allegations, CMC Commissioner Ananya Das said, "We have done fogging exercise there (in the affected areas), we have also sprinkled anti-larva oil and created awareness through Anganwadi workers."

She further said that dengue mosquitoes even breed in clean water, so people should clean their houses too and avoid stagnant water in flower pots, tyres and other such places.
