Rayagada: At a time when the entire government machinery is focussed on battling the COVID-19 ordeal gripping the State, cases of rise in dengue has now evolved as a new challenge.
As many as 61 people have been identified positive for dengue pilling up more worries for the administration in Rayagada district.
According to sources, 19 more people have tested positive for dengue in the district with Bissamcuttack, Maligaon and Rayagada Town are some of the areas under the scourge of the vector-borne disease. All the patients have been reportedly admitted to the Muniguda Community Health Centre (CHC) and Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital.
Earlier, 42 people from Tikarpada village under Muniguda block were tested positive for Dengue raising alarm bells for the authorities.
Meanwhile, a medical camp has been set up at Tikarpada to check monitor the situation from worsening any further, said sources.
Besides, the district administration has reportedly launched a drive with focus on eradication of the sources of mosquito breeding in the affected areas.
Fogging exercise in the affected areas has also been intensified with sprinkling of anti-larva oil and creating awareness through various means are likely to be initiated in the region to check dengue spread.
A special preventive drive, sanitary measures and fogging operations have been started in the affected areas to destroy mosquito breeding points, informed the Assistant District Medical Officer (ADMO).
In 2019, Odisha had reported its first dengue death in the month of August when a 60-year-old woman, Debaki Behera (60) of Kendrapara district, died at SCB Cuttack.
SCB dengue nodal officer had then informed that the woman patient from Aul area of the district was admitted to the hospital’s medicine ward on July 29, and later shifted to the ICU of the special dengue ward after she tested positive for dengue where she succumbed to her illness.
On the other hand, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Odisha now stands at 177. Meanwhile, a coronavirus patient died in Odisha on Wednesday taking the death toll in the State to two.
As per the State Health and Family Welfare Department, the deceased was a 77-year-old Male of Madhusudan Nagar in Bhubaneswar who had underlying comorbidities of hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease.
