Bhubaneswar: Despite tall claims by the state health department to have carried out anti-larval activities to contain Dengue across the state mostly in dengue-prone areas, the vector-borne disease claimed the life of a medical student on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Devi Prasad Viswa Ranjan was a student of MKCG medical college, Berhampur who died in a private hospital here.

Nearly a week back as many as six medical students of the college were reportedly tested positive for Dengue.

The state government on Thursday confirmed 56 new dengue cases in the state taking the total of those infected by the mosquito-borne disease to 1,412, sources said.

While Balasore district has topped the list of most cases reported this year with 438, Ganjam followed with 413 cases, sources said.
