Bolangir: The ongoing agitation for the establishment of a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in Bolangir has intensified as the Joint Action Committee and the District Bar Association have called for a shutdown till December 30.

According to sources, the agitating members have called for closure of all offices, educational institutions and banks.

The protesters were seen picketing at several places of the district resulting in disruption of vehicular traffic today.

“The agitation for the establishment of a permanent High Court bench in Bolangir will be intensified and all the offices of the State and the central government, banks, schools, colleges will remain closed from December 24 till December 30 in the district,” convenor of Joint Action Committee, Lalit Nayaksaid.

It is pertinent to mention here that Joint Action Committee and district bar association are spearheading the agitation since December 3 after shutting down the Collectorate, Tehsil office and some other institutions in Bolangir.

As many as 300 organisations of Bolangir have extended their support to the protest which is currently underway in the district.

The agitators have also threatened to intensify their agitation if the government does not take necessary steps to fulfil their demands at the earliest.
