Demand For HC bench: Economic blockade in West Odisha in January
Sambalpur: Intensifying demand for establishment of a permanent High Court Bench, the agitating lawyers of western Odisha today threatened to hold a three-day long economic blockade in January. A decision in this regard was taken by the Central Action Committee (CAC) of All-Western Odisha Bar Association (AWOBA) during a meeting held at Sonepur today.
According to sources in the Sambalpur Bar Association, the blockade will be staged from January 7 till January 9.
Sambalpur Bar Association President, Bijitendriya Pradhan said, “The CAC has taken a decision to hold economic blockade on January 7, 8 and 9 in Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundergarh and Jharsuguda.”
The CAC also decided to assemble the MLA and MPs of western districts and conduct discussions to push their long-standing demand of establishment of permanent High Court bench, sources said.
While the lawyers have been on a cease work stir since September 5, the CAC informed that the agitation will continue till the end of this month. Following this decision, the courts and government offices remained closed today.
