New Delhi: Even though situation is gradually limping back to normalcy in the national capital, six families from Odisha residing in the riot-hit Khajuri Khas area under North-East Delhi are yet to come out of the trauma. Recounting the horror, the families stated that they were almost trapped in a building at Khajuri Khas and had to walk some 2 kms along with their children to safety.
“There was smoke everywhere and we could not stay inside as stones were being pelted from all sides. Amid the tense situation, we somehow managed to come out of the building and walked 2 kms along with children to a safer place,” a woman narrated her ordeal while speaking to OTV.
Another member of the family said, “It is almost seven days that we are having sleepless night. All our ration stock exhausted and we had to remain without food for two days.”
As almost all shops had downed shutters, the Odia families in Delhi stated that children were worst affected as they failed to seek medical help or even buy medicines for them. Though markets have opened today, most of the commercial establishments do not have adequate stock of commodities which is also creating problems for the people.
As per latest reports, security personnel are conducting flag marches and holding regular consultations with people to assuage their fears. The cops have also issued an advisory asking people not to pay attention to rumours on social media citing that a lot of hate material is being circulated on WhatsApp and other platforms.
Police have asked people to file a complaint with Delhi Government if they find any such material doing rounds.
Speaking to OTV, Delhi Police Joint Commissioner OP Mishra today said that the situation is peaceful and flag march is being conducted by police at several places. “The situation is absolutely normal and peaceful. We are reassuring people that there is nothing to fear and their entire locality is safe,” said Mishra adding that situation is under control.
So far, the death toll in the northeast Delhi violence has risen to 42.
