Bhubaneswar: A delegation of Indian MPs under the aegis of the India-US Forum of Parliamentarians (IUFP) has left for the US to hold talks with senior American administration officials and Congressional leaders.
 
The delegation is headed by senior BJD leader and Kendrapara MP Mr Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda. Other members of the delegation include Ms Supriya Sule (Lok Sabha, NCP), Mr Prem Das Rai (Lok Sabha, SDF), Mr Uday Singh (Lok Sabha, BJP), Mr Manicka Tagore (Lok Sabha, INC), Mr Pratap Singh Bajwa (Lok Sabha, INC) and Mr Bhakta Charan Das (Lok Sabha, INC). The visit is being organized with the support of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) in Washington & Boston from 2nd June, 2013 onwards.
 
The IUFP forum was first launched in 2002 to foster closer relations between India and the US, and involves Indian Parliamentarians from various political parties. The forum also provides an opportunity to Parliamentarians to critically think about the challenges of leadership and to learn from the work being done in the US.
 
On arrival, the delegation will be briefed by Mr. Panda, and also the Indian embassy in the US on India-US relations. In Washington, the visit will involve meetings and interactions with senior members of the US Administration including Deputy Secretary of State Mr. William Burns, Deputy Secretary of Defense Mr. Ashton Carter; elected representatives from both governing and opposition parties including Mr. Ed Royce, Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and think-tanks such as the Brookings Institute.
 
Following this, delegates will attend a day long Parliamentary Leadership Programme at the Poverty Action Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. On the last day, the delegates will participate in a Roundtable Meeting along with professors of public policy and business administration at Harvard University.
