Balasore: A day after an undertrial prisoner was allegedly killed by a murder convict in Balasore district jail, two warders of the jail were suspended today for dereliction of duty.

As per reports, chief warder of the jail Sanjeev Panda and warder Dilip Mohaptara have been put under suspension. On the other hand, DIG (prisons) Gopabandhu Mallick has reached the jail to investigate the incident.

Yesterday undertrial prisoner Ramachandra Das was attacked by Sharat Giri, a prisoner serving life sentence in the jail. Following the attack, Das sustained deep injuries in head and was immediately rushed to the Balasore district hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Even as the exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, Superintendent of Balasore District Jail Subhakanta Mishra said the convict had found a stone somewhere in the jail and hit the undertrial prisoner in the head.

"An inquiry is underway and an FIR will be lodged. He doesn't have any history of assaulting anyone," Mishra said.
