Balasore: Tension ran high at Balasore district headquarters hospital today after family members of a deceased 5-year-old girl alleged medical negligence behind her death and demanded action against the erring hospital officials.

As per sources, the girl had a tumour above her eye and was operated at the district headquarters hospital yesterday. When she showed anomaly in the evening, she was advised to be shifted to Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack. The child reportedly died on her way to Cuttack.

Following the incident, the family members and relatives of the girl blamed the hospital authorities and alleged that medical negligence led to her death. They staged a demonstration by keeping body of the deceased girl in front of the hospital and later blocked the road in the area demanding compensation and action against hospital staff.

“The doctors found a tumour and ran many tests following which she was operated. In the evening, after operation, her condition worsened and she was advised to be shifted to Sishu Bhawan. I am deeply shocked with her death. It is the doctors who should be blamed for her death," said a relative of the girl, Sanjay Mohanty.

Responding to the incident, DSP of Balasore, Umesh Kumar Panda said," We have sought reports from the hospital authorities. All necessary action will be taken based on the findings."
