Bhadrak: Normal life has been affected in the district due to a 12-hour bandh called by the Zilla Unnayan Sangharsh Samiti today demanding a medical college and hospital in the district.

According to reports, different organisations have been observing a peaceful shutdown from 6 AM to 6 PM to press for establishment of a medical college and hospital in Bhadrak.

Sources said various social organisations and different political parties including BJD, BJP and Congress have extended their support towards the bandh.

Vehicular movement came to a grinding halt in the district due to the bandh as members of the Zilla Unnayan Sangharsh Samiti staged road blockade at different places since early morning. Members of the organisation also staged a ‘rail roko’ agitation affecting the rail services.

Schools, markets and business establishments remained closed during the shutdown. However, emergency services were exempted from the bandh, reports stated.

Meanwhile, the district administration has taken adequate security measures to avoid any untoward incident.
