Bhubaneswar: Protesting against the recent alleged manhandling of Cuttack sector-VI DAV school principal by some parents, as many as 5,000 DAV teachers across the state went on strike on Thursday demanding immediate action the ‘erring’ parents. The teachers of all English medium schools in the twin city of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar also supported the protest.

“Is this expected from the parents? How they dared to misbehave a lady teacher?” asked a teacher.
Demanding the police their safety and security, the agitating teachers staged sit-ins in front of their respective schools and decided to continue the stir until their demands are met.

Ruing police inaction over the matter, one teacher said, “Even if a complaint was lodged in Markatnagar police station, no action has so far been taken against the accused.”

According to reports, above 50 parents entered the sector-VI DAV school in Cuttack and abused principal Ipsita Das with filthy languages. The parents demanding immediate withdrawal of fee hike also asked her to put up a notice mentioning roll back of fee hike.

The parents association and the DAV authorities are fighting a legal battle for quite sometime over the fee hike issue. The matter worsened further in December last after the latter announced almost 300% hike in monthly fee.

When the parents objected the hike, the authorities reasoned that “Based on an interim order of the Supreme Court they are going ahead with hike.”

The parents however said that the school association must wait for the final verdict to come.
