DAV guardians stage dharna over fee hike
The schools in the capital city have increased fee three times with retrospective effect from June 2012. Parents alleged that though the school can hike fee 10% a year, it cannot increase 40% at one go.
“It is highly unethical to increase school fee three times at one time when the matter is under sub-judice” said Paresh Mohanty, a parent.
“Since the schools have not increased fee for last four years they can hike 40% but three times is absolutely illegal” added Mohanty.
It may be noted that parents associations and the DAV School management have been fighting a legal battle for last four years over the fee hike issue. The school management moved SC following a High Court order favouring the parents and the matter is still sub-judice.
The apex court in an interim order however said that the school authorities can increase school fee after paying salary to teachers as per sixth pay commission, and based on the decision of the interim committee after reviewing the income-expenditure of schools.
The irked parents also alleged that Parent Teacher Coordination Committee (PTCC) has been formed overnight to implement fee hike.
L.R. DAV Public School, Cuttack principal refuting however said that PTCC has been constituted lawfully and parents are creating an unnecessary issue out of it.
