Bargarh: The 'Dhanu Yatra,' known as the world's largest open air theatre festival, will begin from January 11, 2019 and continue till January 21.

A special meeting chaired by Bargarh collector was held today to finalise the dates and roll out plans to ensure smooth conduct of the festival.

The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police, Mukesh Bhamu, Bargarh MLA Devesh Acharya, MP Prabhas Kumar Singh, Dhanu Yatra committee secretary, Sureswar Satpathy and other government officials.

According to sources, discussion on selection of artists will be held in the next meeting.

The 11-day festival is based on Krishna Leela and Mathura Vijay. The story begins with the demon king of Mathura, Kansa, also uncle of Lord Krishna, ascending the throne and concludes with his death.

During the festival, Bargarh becomes the city of Mathura, the river Jeera becomes the Yamuna and Ambapali situated on the other side of Jeera becomes Gopapura.
