Keonjhar: A gang of armed dacoits committed dacoity in the residence of a prominent Congress leader at Odisha's Keonjhar district, police said today.
 
The gang comprising about 25 members broke open the residence of Sanatan Mahakud of Nambira village under Bamebari police limits of Keonjhar district in the wee hours and captured the two night watchmen.
 
They took away valuable jewellery and some cash, police said.
 
They threatened the other members of the family including Mahakud's two sons at the gun points and locked them in a room before committing the crime.
 
The dacoits hit the head of his eldest son by using the gun's but, as he resisted the criminals from committing the dacoity.
 
When the villagers wake up, the dacoits hurled some bombs on them and escaped. Investigation into the crime was on, SDPO, Barbil said.
