Cuttack: After grilling him for the last four days, Commissionerate Police arrested former councillor of Rourkela Asesh Mohanty on Thursday night on charges of having links with arrested criminal siblings Sushil and Susant Dhalasamant.

According to sources, Markat Nagar police arrested Mohanty, after it was revealed during the interrogation that the former councillor has business links with the Dhalasamant brothers.

With Mohanty’s arrest, the total number of arrested persons, for links with the gangsters reached 19. So far, 10 cases have been slapped against the brothers.

Earlier on Thursday, police had arrested Siba Gochhi, another associate of the criminal sibling. Besides, the police had summoned four persons for interrogation on their alleged links with the Dhalasamant brothers.

While the police had served notice to Sanjay Behera, secretary of Football Association of Odisha (FAO) to appear for interrogation within seven days, two corporators of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC)— Chiranjay Sahu and Ranjita Biswal— and working president of the erstwhile Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangh Sambit Behera have been asked to appear before the police within three days.
