Bhubaneswar: In view of a fresh cyclonic circulation over East-central Bay of Bengal, the regional meteorological department today forecast heavy rainfall for coastal and southern parts of the state in next 24 hours.

Heavy rain accompanied with lightning and thunderstorm is most likely to occur in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Cuttack and Nayagarh and other parts of coastal and southern Odisha, a latest forecast of the regional meteorological centre said.

Sources informed the circulation is likely to turn into a low pressure system over the North-central Bay of Bengal by September 18.

Due to its effect, several places of the state are likely to receive heavy rain while light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorm is likely to continue at most places of the state till September 22.

It is pertinent to note that the cumulative average rainfall of the State from 1st June till 16th September of 2018 comes to a surplus of 13.5%.

While 11 districts have received surplus rainfall of more than 19% , other districts have received normal rainfall (+19% to -19%) during the period.
